Koala partnered with Penguin Random House to create a striking animated trailer for The Protest, the latest novel by broadcaster, barrister and author Rob Rinder. The story follows a teenager caught in the aftermath of a protest that spirals into national headlines, touching on themes of justice, identity and personal agency. This project continued Koala’s creative involvement across the series, evolving a distinctive visual identity that reflects the emotional and political weight of the books.
Working from the book’s bold cover artwork, Koala developed a bespoke illustrated style that combined expressive typography, protest iconography and dynamic transitions. The animation captures the charged atmosphere of the novel without revealing too much, using layered visuals and sound to evoke both immediacy and introspection.
The trailer was central to a national VOD campaign, supported by targeted social rollouts. Koala also oversaw the Clearcast approval process, ensuring compliance for broadcast. Delivered with voiceover and original sound design, the piece set the tone for launch with clarity, confidence and impact.
Outputs were delivered across all major formats including 16:9, 1:1 and 9:16 for YouTube, Instagram, TikTok and pre-roll platforms. The Protest trailer reflects Koala’s ability to translate complex themes into compelling short-form content that connects quickly and powerfully with audiences.
