About This Project
At Koala, we partnered with Birmingham City Council to deliver a powerful cinematic video for COG, a new initiative aimed at empowering disadvantaged youth across the city. Created to connect young people from challenging backgrounds with opportunities in education, training, and creative development, the project needed a bold, emotionally resonant film to drive awareness and inspire action. The result was a highly stylised piece of cinematic live action branded content, built around a strong narrative voice and visual impact.
Central to the creative approach was our collaboration with spoken word artist Sipho Eric Dube, who wrote and voiced the script. His powerful, poetic words formed the backbone of the film, weaving together themes of struggle, ambition, and hope. We combined Sipho’s voiceover with cinematic live action filming across key locations in Birmingham, using dynamic camera movement, rich visual composition, and professional lighting to elevate the story. This was not a documentary but a carefully crafted, emotionally driven short film designed to inspire, not just inform.
