At Koala, we had the privilege of partnering with The Woodland Trust, the UK’s largest woodland conservation charity, to create a vibrant and heartfelt 2D character animation. Designed to encourage exploration, support, and new sign-ups, this animated campaign invites audiences to step outside their homes and discover a “World Without Walls” — a limitless landscape of forests, wildlife, and natural wonder. Through the power of visual storytelling, we aimed to rekindle people’s connection to the outdoors and inspire them to actively support woodland conservation efforts.
The Woodland Trust’s vision was clear: to remind people that beyond their daily routines and four walls lies a world rich with beauty and adventure. Our team at Koala brought this vision to life through detailed character animation, immersive storytelling, and stunning, hand-crafted environments. The animation follows relatable characters who break free from the confines of indoor life, embarking on a journey that reveals the breathtaking, often unseen world of Britain’s ancient woodlands. Every scene was carefully designed to evoke curiosity, joy, and a sense of freedom, making it impossible not to feel the call of the wild.
By using 2D character animation, we created an emotional bridge between viewers and the mission of The Woodland Trust. The friendly, stylised characters allowed audiences to see themselves reflected on screen, while the lush, animated landscapes showcased the rich biodiversity that The Woodland Trust works tirelessly to protect. Storytelling played a central role in this project, with each moment crafted to stir the imagination and encourage meaningful action — whether through signing up, donating, or simply stepping outside to explore.
At Koala, we believe in the power of animation to move people. This project perfectly demonstrates how thoughtful, creative animation can spark emotional connections, shift perspectives, and support vital causes. Our 2D animation for The Woodland Trust is more than just a film — it’s an invitation to rediscover nature, embrace adventure, and help protect the world beyond our walls.
